Wake Forest University Joins HeRO™ Patient Outcomes Study

December 15, 2005 - Charlottesville, VA. Medical Predictive Science Corporation has announced that Wake Forest University (WFU) has begun enrolling patients in an ongoing outcomes study of the Heart Rate Observation (HeRO™) system.

The HeRO™ system analyzes the heart rate variability of newborns in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) to detect abnormal patterns, such as reduced baseline variability and transient decelerations. The ultimate result of this analysis is a score that quantifies the degree of abnormality.

The research study, funded by the National Institutes of Health, attempts to quantify the effects of making the HeRO™ scores available to caregivers in the NICU.

Wake Forest University, located in Winston Salem, North Carolina, also participated in much of the early research that led to the development of the predictive models used in the HeRO™ system. "We are very pleased to have Wake Forest University join the clinical trial," said Will King, the HeRO™ Project Manager for MPSC. "We have had a long and successful working relationship with them, starting with the early stages of product development, so we are excited to have them onboard as we start this new phase of our research effort."
